Website Redesign for a Performance Tuning Brand

OVERVIEW

Sportchips provides performance tuning configurations for vehicles, helping drivers unlock better power, responsiveness and efficiency. The company’s previous website was more than a decade old and had never been updated for mobile. The goal was to redesign the entire experience and create a responsive, modern site that clearly presents their tuning products and services.

OBJECTIVE

The project focused on two primary goals:

  • Redesign the full website with a clean, responsive layout that works smoothly across devices.
  • Create a Vehicle Finder feature that helps users quickly determine whether their vehicle is supported and which tuning options are available.

ROLE

I led the full redesign and development of the site, including UI/UX, layout, information architecture, and database management. I also coordinated with a development team to build the Vehicle Finder Module.

Challenges

An outdated website with no responsive structure

The original site was built in 2008 and was intended only for desktop. Navigation was confusing and content was difficult to read on modern devices. The redesign had to reimagine the layout completely while keeping the content familiar for returning users.

A product catalog dependent on vehicle compatibility

Performance tuning is highly specific. The site needed a clear way for users to look up their vehicle and view the exact configurations that apply. Without this, customers were left guessing or sending manual emails to support.

Balancing technical content with clarity

Engine tuning comes with detailed specifications. The challenge was organizing all that information in a format that feels simple and friendly, even for users who are not deeply technical.

A RESPONSIVE LAYOUT BUILT FOR CLARITY

The new design adapts across mobile, tablet and desktop. Page structure was simplified to guide users toward two key actions: finding their vehicle and requesting a quote. Clean typography and a light visual system help reinforce confidence and reduce friction.

VEHICLE FINDER FEATURE

A custom module was added so users can look up their vehicle make, model and year. The results page displays the available tuning configurations for that vehicle, along with images, key features and simple quote request options. This improved both usability and conversion.

VISUAL IDENTITY REFRESH

The brand look and feel was updated with cleaner visual elements. The new design uses controlled color accents, clean icons and a more consistent layout style that feels more professional and easier to navigate.

Each product page was redesigned with a clear hierarchy. Images, specifications and performance details are easy to scan. The layout supports quick comparisons and makes complex information approachable.

Outcome

The redesign resulted in a significantly improved user experience. The site now feels modern, responsive and easy to use. The Vehicle Finder feature helps users quickly understand whether their car is supported and which tuning products are available. Product information is organized in a clear, trust-building way that aligns with the technical nature of the brand without overwhelming the user.

Reflection

This project reinforced the value of strong information architecture in technical industries. When users are dealing with complex or unfamiliar content, clear structure and simple visual presentation matter more than anything else. Bringing the site up to modern standards also highlighted how transformative responsive design can be for credibility and user trust.
